Abstract:

Suppurative hidradenitis (HS) is a chronic, recurrent, inflammatory skin disease affecting the axillaries, groin, and anogenital region. Pain, odour, pus and aesthetic deficiencies of the affected areas significantly affect the patient’s quality of life. Presented is a case of a 41 years-old male patient with HS. The patient was treated with topical antiseptic and antibiotic preparations, systemic antibiotics and retinoids, and surgical procedures, however, saw no improvement. The patients’ quality of life was significantly impaired. Following the implementation of antibodies that bind to tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-a), substantial clinical improvement was achieved improving the patient’s quality of life. The therapy has been well-tolerated by the patient for the last 6 months.
