Sexual dysfunctions in men in family medicine practice
Sexual dysfunction in men is a broad term that implies several aspects of which the most common are erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, and lack of sexual desire. Erectile dysfunction is the inability to achieve and/or maintain a sufficient erection for satisfactory sexual performance. To make a diagnosis, the doctor needs anamnestic data on possible changes in mental state, life habits and laboratory processing. Treatment of erectile dysfunction includes primarily lifestyle changes and treatment of the underlying disease. If necessary, drug therapy is introduced and psychotherapy/ sexual therapy is advised. Premature ejaculation (PE) is the most common sexual dysfunction in men. The diagnosis is made on the basis of a good and comprehensive anamnesis, which should include the presence / absence of comorbidities and the determination of the type of PE. Treatment includes the use of SSRIs and psychological/sexological methods.
