The intensive statin therapy in patients with acute coronary syndrome

Author: Mario Ivanuša
Abstract:

At the beginning of the 21st century there is no furhter doubt that statins are to be used as modern pharmacoinvasive treatment of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The studies MIRACL, PROVE-IT and Phase Z of the A to Z have established that high-statin doses in an early ACS stage (so called intensive statin therapy) efficiently reduce the frequency of undesired cardiovascular events. This treatment of patients with ACS is safe and cost-effective. Further research will define an optimal length of the intensive statin therapy.
